Good Advertising Jobs Must Be Earned

The great part about moving up in the advertising jobs category is that your past successes are directly related to your worth and potential value as you seek to advance. In many media jobs you can bolster your worth with training and length of experience. But in the media sales part of the advertising business it’s all about track record.

Training and certification will get you in the door, but unless you start carving notches in your belt real fast you could be out the in door sooner than it takes to print up new business cards. Even being a good account servicer will leave you with being a good account servicer. Because in the ad game they have plenty of technicians, they’re looking for inventors.

Pulling out new prospects is a tough game. Many of those you will target will truly benefit in great proportion from your suggested campaign strategy. But even a finely tuned proposal could be overlooked if presented to the wrong staff, or at the wrong time. Persistence is a virtue in sales and is by no means the only virtue needed. Sales advertising jobs require a broad mix of intuition, talent and industry knowledge.

And not just of your industry, but of the customers industry. This could be great for a sports fan selling sports promotions but those match-ups are coveted accounts. And unless your track record allows such a pick and choose status you could end up promoting refrigerators to Eskimos. Not that that hasn’t been done and with some success too!
